Incorporating eCommerce Intro Website Design

Back when the Internet first became a “thing”, the idea of having a business website was a bit of a novelty. From there, it became expected that any professional organization would have a website in place to display pertinent company information. Now we’ve come to the point where this is no longer enough. Instead, consumers want to be able to arrive at a website, research product information, and even make a purchase.

If your site hasn’t been designed to accommodate these eCommerce demands, it’s just gathering dust at this point. So, how do you go about upgrading your site to meet modern consumer demands? Here are a few tip for making your website eCommerce-friendly:

Use Full-Page Background Images

The idea of using a singular background image is really taking off. Whereas numerous images of all of your different product offerings and demonstrations of your services can feel very cluttered and become a distraction, the use of one simple image that conveys a sense of your brand will help maintain an air of professionalism while keeping your shoppers on track. Make sure that the image has the appropriate resolution and is locked into place, even when a customer is scrolling through the page.

K.I.S.S.

Keep It Simple, Stupid! Flat design is the way to go because it minimizes complex colors, shapes, lines, and images. Your goal is to keep your customers focused on the end game: buying your product! Keeping things simple will help in gently (but firmly) guiding your shoppers in the right direction.

Try Card Design

Card design is really taking off with eCommerce platforms. In this type of layout, each “card” contains a short blurb of text, a relevant image, and a related button. The goal is to present product information in a simple, concise manner so that people can get what they need in a matter of seconds.

Don’t Go Crazy with Buttons

Yes, you want your customers to take certain actions and end up on landing pages or at the checkout phase of their shopping, but you also don’t want to confuse, distract, or annoy them. Using a few strategically placed buttons is a much better way to go than cluttering your whole page with flashy “CLICK ME!” links.

Optimize for Mobile

It seems like we talk about mobile optimization at least once a week, if not more oft. Although it may appear to be overkill, it’s only because we care about your success! The #1 killer of eCommerce marketing efforts comes from a lack of mobile-friendliness. You absolutely CANNOT afford to neglect the large, and constantly-growing, audience of consumers that’s researching options and making purchases directly from its smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices. This means that you need to take the time to ensure that your web design is optimized for mobile. Make sure that the design is compatible with ALL devices and ALL operating systems. Whether a user is logging in from an Android phone or an iPad, they should be able to enjoy the same, simple, and positive user experience.

App-ly Yourself!

Beyond optimizing for mobile, you may even want to consider developing an app that is strictly dedicated to marketing purposes. Clean, simple, and user-friendly applications can make the buying experience a whole lot easier for customers, thus stimulating sales.
